U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Owned

45 Years. Same Owner. Same Standards.

Louie Sharp opened this shop in May 1981. He still owns it, he is still here, and the way the work gets done has not drifted in four and a half decades.

How It Started

A jet engine mechanic who decided to fix cars instead.

The MarinesBefore 1981

Louie served in the U.S. Marine Corps and spent 16 years in the Marine Reserves as a jet engine mechanic working on Huey helicopters. That is where the standard came from. When you are signing off on a helicopter, close enough is not a category that exists. Either it meets the specification or it does not fly.

He carried that into a trade where, frankly, most people do not hold that line. It is the reason this shop argues with insurance companies instead of quietly cutting corners to hit a number.

Learning the TradeThe late 1970s

He learned body work at Scott's Auto Body in Arlington Heights before going out on his own. Old school training, on vehicles that were built completely differently than what comes in today, which is part of why the shop is comfortable with classics and antiques that other shops turn away.

Opening DayMay 1981

Sharp Auto Body opened in Island Lake. Small shop, few tools, a lot of hours. The values he opened with are the same three we still run on: do the job right, be honest about what needs to be done, and take care of people.

GrowingLate 1980s to 2000

We added 24-hour towing in the late 1980s because customers kept getting stranded at night and sent to storage lots that charged them by the day. In 2000 we acquired a second location. The growth was never the goal so much as the result of not losing customers.

Today2026

We are I-CAR Gold Certified, which is the highest shop-level training standard in the industry and has to be re-earned every year. We hold OEM certifications from more than 16 manufacturers. We run 3D computerized measuring and wedge clamp frame repair systems, and our techs train continuously because vehicles change every model year.

What has not changed is who answers the phone and what happens when an adjuster tells us to use a salvage part on a structural repair.

What We Stand For

Four things we will not compromise on.

01

Safety First

Every repair meets or exceeds what the manufacturer requires. We do not cut corners when your family's safety is the thing being negotiated.

That includes the parts nobody can see: structural welds, ADAS calibration, and the airbag and sensor systems that only matter once, on the worst day.

02

Honest Service

We tell you exactly what needs doing and what it costs. No surprises, no upsells, no games. If something does not need to be repaired, we will say so.

If we find hidden damage after teardown, you hear about it from us the same day, with photos, before any additional work happens.

03

The Gold Standard

I-CAR Gold means our team stays current on techniques and technology that change every single model year. We take training seriously because a 2026 vehicle does not repair like a 2016 one.

Aluminum structures, high strength steel, and camera-based safety systems all have written procedures. We follow them.

04

We Treat You Like Family

Free loaner cars, free pickup and delivery, and a team that actually cares how the experience goes. Most people arrive at a body shop having already had a bad day.

A large share of our work is repeat customers and their kids. That only happens one way.
